Your Itinerary

DAY 1 | Saturday 20 June 2026 | Adelaide to Alice Springs

Your Central Australia adventure begins with morning Qantas flights from Adelaide to the Red Centre. Following arrival at Alice Springs Airport, the group transfers directly to the Alice Springs Telegraph Station, one of the Northern Territory’s most historically significant sites. Established in 1872 as part of the Overland Telegraph Line that first connected Australia’s vast interior to the wider world, this beautifully preserved station complex brings to life the remarkable story of the pioneering operators and their families. A tour of the precinct is followed by lunch, served at the Trail Station Cafe. The afternoon continues with a visit to the Royal Flying Doctor Service Museum — a compelling tribute to the aerial medical service that has provided lifesaving care to remote Australians since 1928. In the late afternoon, you’ll check into the Mercure Alice Springs (08 8951 4545), your comfortable and centrally located home for the first two nights. Dinner at the hotel provides the perfect opportunity to meet your fellow travellers and prepare for the remarkable week ahead.

DAY 2 | Sunday 21 June 2026 | Natural grandeur of the Red Centre

After breakfast at the hotel, this morning takes you west into the breathtaking Tjoritja/West MacDonnell National Park, a dramatic landscape of ancient ranges, seasonal gorges, and tranquil billabongs stretching 161 kilometres from Alice Springs. Your first stop is Simpsons Gap, where a short walk through a riverbed lined with ghost gums leads to a striking quartzite gorge renowned for its resident colonies of Black-footed Rock Wallabies. After morning tea we journey deeper into the ranges to Standley Chasm, one of Central Australia’s most photographed natural wonders. This spectacular slot canyon narrows to just three metres wide, and at midday the sun illuminates the sheer ochre walls in vivid, blazing colour. Lunch is enjoyed at the Standley Chasm Cafe.
The afternoon returns to town for a self-guided visit to the Alice Springs School of the Air, where you’ll discover how remote children across an area larger than France receive their education by radio and satellite. A scenic stop at Anzac Hill Lookout then delivers sweeping panoramic views over Alice Springs and the MacDonnell Ranges, followed by time to browse local shops and galleries. We’ll return to our accommodation in the early evening, with dinner at the hotel completing your first full day of discovery.

DAY 3 | Monday 22 June 2026 | Alice Springs to Yulara

After an early breakfast, the group departs Alice Springs for the drive south and west to Yulara, traversing some of the most compelling desert country in Australia. The route follows the Stuart Highway across classic red-sand mulga country, with a morning tea stop at the Erldunda Roadhouse, the highway junction for Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Turning west onto the Lasseter Highway we continue our journey, stopping to enjoy lunch at the Curtin Springs Wayside Inn, a working cattle station that has welcomed outback travellers since 1956. As we approach Yulara in the mid-afternoon, the iconic silhouette of Uluru appears on the horizon — a moment that never fails to inspire. After checking into The Outback Hotel, your comfortable home for the next three nights, there is time to settle in before heading out to watch the sunset paint the rock in extraordinary shades of amber ochre, and rose. Dinner at the hotel brings this magnificent travel day to a close.

DAY 4 | Tuesday 23 June 2026 | Breathtaking Uluru

For those who wish, the early morning presents an optional opportunity to watch the sun rise over Uluru, a breathtaking spectacle as the monolith slowly emerges from darkness into golden desert light. After breakfast at the hotel, the morning is devoted to a fully guided tour of Uluru, exploring its remarkable geology and the sacred Tjukurpa (Dreaming) stories that give the rock its profound cultural significance. The afternoon brings free time at the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, where thoughtfully curated exhibits explore the history, art, and living traditions of the Anangu people, traditional custodians of this extraordinary landscape. Lunch is served at the Initi Cafe. There is time to return to Yulara for personal exploration or rest before an early dinner, allowing you to be refreshed for the evening’s highlight: the Field of Light installation. This immersive artwork sees 50,000 illuminated glass spheres bloom across the desert floor after dark, creating a mesmerising display that transforms the landscape around the base of Uluru into something truly magical.

DAY 5 | Wednesday 24 June 2026 | Exploring ancient landscapes from the skies

This morning delivers one of the most extraordinary experiences of the tour: a two-hour scenic flight with Fly Uluru, part of the renowned Desert Explorer programme. From the air, the full  majesty of the Red Centre is revealed — Uluru’s vast, smooth dome, the domed peaks of Kata Tjuta, and the soaring sandstone walls of Kings Canyon, all seen from a perspective few travellers  ever encounter. After returning to Yulara and enjoying an early lunch, the group transfers to Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), a sacred formation of 36 domed conglomerate peaks rising dramatically from the desert plain. Walk between the towering rock walls to feel the echoes of time and appreciate the tranquility of this rock formation. Returning to Yulara in the mid-afternoon, time is free for personal exploration or rest before dinner at the hotel completing your final night in this ancient and sacred landscape.

DAY 6 | Thursday 25 June 2026 | Scenic touring

After breakfast, the group bids farewell to Yulara and begins the return journey to Alice Springs. The route retraces the Lasseter Highway eastward through the vast Amadeus Basin, with a morning tea stop at the Curtin Springs Wayside Inn. We continue south to the junction at Erldunda, where lunch is taken at the Erldunda Roadhouse. The drive back through the heart of the
continent is itself a remarkable experience — the colours of the desert shifting through ochre, red, and mauve as the light changes across the open plains, offering a final, unhurried opportunity to
absorb the scale and beauty of this ancient landscape. Arriving back in Alice Springs in the late afternoon, you’ll check into the Mercure Alice Springs for your final night. Dinner at the hotel provides a fitting occasion to share memories of the week’s highlights with your fellow travellers.

DAY 7 | Friday 26 June 2026 | Return to Adelaide

After a final breakfast at the hotel, the group departs Alice Springs with memories of one of Australia’s most extraordinary landscapes. A short transfer to Alice Springs Airport precedes morning  Qantas flights to Adelaide, completing a journey through the ancient heart of the continent. As the red plains give way to familiar surroundings on approach to Adelaide, there will be time to reflect on the remarkable experiences of the past week — the timeless presence of Uluru, the ancient gorges of the West MacDonnell Ranges, the spectacle of the Field of Light, and the privilege of encountering a land whose human history spans more than 50,000 years. Your chauffeur car will be waiting on arrival to return you home, bringing your Central Australian adventure to a close.
