Your Itinerary

DAY 1 | Saturday 11 July 2026 | Adelaide to Darwin

Your Kimberley adventure begins with a morning Qantas flight from Adelaide to Darwin. Upon arrival in the early afternoon, you’ll be welcomed by your coach driver and transferred to Oaks Darwin Elan Hotel (Ph: 1300 542 502), your comfortable base in the heart of Darwin’s central business district for the next two nights. This well-appointed hotel sits just moments from the city’s vibrant waterfront precinct and provides an ideal starting point for the journey ahead. After settling in and freshening up, the group will assemble for a short transfer to Stokes Hill Wharf, where you’ll board the Spirit of Darwin for a sunset dinner cruise. As the vessel glides across the harbour, enjoy a relaxed meal while watching the tropical sun paint the sky in brilliant hues of orange and crimson—a spectacular introduction to the Top End. The warm evening air and calm waters set the tone perfectly for the extraordinary Kimberley experiences to come. Following the cruise, we return to the hotel for a restful evening ahead of your first full day of exploration.

DAY 2 | Sunday 12 July 2026 | A snappy day in Darwin

After breakfast at the hotel, we meet our knowledgeable local for a comprehensive guided tour of Darwin. This fascinating city, rebuilt after Cyclone Tracy’s devastating impact on Christmas Day 1974, reveals its resilient spirit through striking modern architecture and carefully preserved heritage buildings. Your guide brings to life the stories of a city that has reinvented itself time and time again—from frontier outpost to wartime target to the cosmopolitan tropical capital it is today. Following the guided tour, we enjoy morning tea at the Darwin Botanic Gardens, where forty-two hectares of lush tropical flora thrive in the warm Top End climate. Take time to wander the peaceful paths and admire the remarkable diversity of plant species. We continue to Crocosaurus Cove in the heart of Darwin city where we enjoy a light lunch. This remarkable attraction is home to some of Australia’s largest saltwater crocodiles and is a fascinating window into the Territory’s unique wildlife. We have plenty of time to wander at our leisure, taking the opportunity to enjoy the animal presentations and interactions. The remainder of the afternoon is yours to explore Darwin at leisure, with dinner at the hotel completing your first full day of discovery.

DAY 3 | Monday 13 July 2026 | Darwin to Katherine

This morning we depart Darwin and travel south along the Stuart Highway into the Northern Territory’s vast interior. Our first pause is at the Adelaide River War Cemetery, a beautifully maintained Commonwealth site honouring those who served in Australia’s defence of the Top End during the Second World War. The serene grounds and rows of white headstones provide a
poignant reminder of the sacrifices made during the bombing of Darwin and surrounding wartime campaigns. We continue south to the historic township of Pine Creek, once a thriving settlement during the 1870s gold rush, where we pause for lunch. Refreshed, we travel onward to Edith Falls in Nitmiluk National Park, a cascading series of natural pools set beneath a canopy of
pandanus palms and monsoon vine forest. Those wishing to take a dip will find gentle stepped access into the cool, crystal-clear water — a refreshing interlude on a warm afternoon. We’ll arrive at Knotts Crossing Resort (Ph: 08 8972 2511), your welcoming Katherine base for the next two nights, with dinner at the resort completing a rewarding day of travel.

DAY 4 | Tuesday 14 July 2026 | Nitmiluk Gorge

This morning we travel to Nitmiluk Gorge, one of the Northern Territory’s most spectacular natural landmarks. Here you’ll board the Nitnit Dreaming Two Gorge Cultural Cruise with Nitmiluk Tours, a two-hour journey deep into a landscape sculpted over 1.5 billion years. As the vessel navigates the towering sandstone walls of the first and second gorges, Indigenous guides share Dreaming stories, revealing the deep cultural significance of this extraordinary place to the Jawoyn people. The scale of the gorge system is breathtaking— sheer ochre cliffs rising from mirror-still waters, with freshwater crocodiles basking on sun-warmed rock ledges and azure kingfishers darting among the pandanus roots. Following the cruise, we enjoy lunch at the Nitmiluk Café before returning to Katherine for a visit to the Katherine Visitor Information Centre, where displays and films capture the drama of the region’s wet season and its remarkable recovery. The remainder of the afternoon is yours at leisure. You may want to browse the shops, visit the hot springs or simply relax at our accommodation, before dinner at the resort completes a truly memorable day.

DAY 5 | Wednesday 15 July 2026 | Katherine to Kunanurra

Today we embark on the great westward journey from the Northern Territory into Western Australia. Departing Katherine after breakfast, we travel the Victoria Highway through vast stretches of savanna woodland, pausing for morning  tea at the remote Victoria River Roadhouse. The mighty Victoria River crossing offers dramatic views of deep red gorge country, a landscape carved over millennia by powerful seasonal floodwaters that reshape this ancient terrain each wet season. We continue to Timber Creek for lunch at the Travellers Rest, a genuine outback stop in one of Australia’s most remote communities. The afternoon brings us to the NT/WA border, where clocks wind back to Western Australian time. Arriving in Kununurra in the late afternoon, we check in to Best Western Cambridge Kununurra (Ph: 0477 727 568), your comfortable home for the next three nights, with dinner at the hotel completing your journey west into the Kimberley.

DAY 6 | Thursday 16 July 2026 | Exploring from the air

An early start this morning rewards you with one of the tour’s most unforgettable experiences—a scenic flight over the Bungle Bungle Range with Aviair. Departing Kununurra Airport at dawn, you’ll soar above the ancient beehive-striped domes of Purnululu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site formed over 350 million years. The banded sandstone towers, striped in orange and dark grey, are a sight of extraordinary beauty when viewed from the air in the soft golden light of early morning. Returning to the resort for a well-earned breakfast, the morning continues with a guided tour of Kununurra, exploring this vibrant agricultural town built to service the Ord River Irrigation Scheme— one of Australia’s most ambitious engineering projects. Following lunch, the afternoon is yours at leisure to explore at your own pace, perhaps visiting a local gallery showcasing distinctive Zebra Rock art or simply relaxing by the pool. Dinner at the hotel brings a satisfying close to this spectacular day.

DAY 7 | Friday 17 July 2026 | Lake Argyle

After breakfast, we journey to Lake Argyle, Australia’s largest artificial freshwater lake, holding more than twenty times the volume of Sydney Harbour. Our first stop is the Argyle Homestead Museum, the reconstructed homestead of the pioneering Durack family, carefully relocated before the valley was flooded. We enjoy morning tea here while exploring displays that chronicle
the epic pastoral history and remarkable determination of the east Kimberley’s early settlers. We continue to the Lake Argyle Resort for a buffet lunch with commanding views across the vast inland sea. The afternoon’s highlight is a cruise with Triple J Tours along the Ord River from the dam wall downstream to Kununurra. You’ll glide past towering sandstone escarpments, spot freshwater crocodiles basking on rocky ledges, and observe abundant birdlife as the river winds through pristine wilderness. We’ll return to our accommodation in the early evening, with dinner at the hotel completing an exceptional day on the water.

DAY 8 | Saturday 18 July 2026 | Kunanurra to Halls Creek

After breakfast, we depart Kununurra and travel south along the Great Northern Highway into the raw, ancient heart of the Kimberley. Our morning tea stop is the Doon Doon Roadhouse, one of the remote outposts that serve as vital lifelines for travellers and station workers crossing this immense landscape. The road stretches onward through open cattle country and dramatic plains studded with the distinctive silhouettes of boab trees—those peculiar, bulbous-trunked sentinels that are unique to the Kimberley and a few other regions worldwide. This is the Kimberley at its most elemental: vast red earth, ancient rock formations, and endless skies that seem to stretch to the very edges of the continent. We pause for comfort stops and lunch along the way as the kilometres unfold. Arriving at the Kimberley Hotel (Ph: 08 9168 6101) in Halls Creek in the late afternoon, you’ll welcome the chance to rest after a long but spectacular day. Dinner at the hotel rounds out a day immersed in the Kimberley’s timeless grandeur.

DAY 9 | Sunday 19 July 2026 | Kunanurra to Halls Creek to Fitzroy Crossing (+Geikie Gorge)

This morning, we depart Halls Creek, continuing on the Great Northern Highway, travelling west through the Kimberley’s sweeping pastoral lands. Morning tea is enjoyed at the scenic Mary Pool Rest Area beside the Mary River, a peaceful shady riverside spot that captures the quiet beauty of this remote and ancient country. We continue westward through wide floodplain country, the
landscape gradually shifting as we approach the mighty Fitzroy River system—one of Australia’s last unregulated rivers and a lifeline for the region’s Indigenous communities and pastoral stations. We arrive at the Fitzroy River Lodge (Ph: 08 9191 5141) in Fitzroy Crossing for lunch and check-in. The lodge’s relaxed tropical garden setting provides a welcome respite. This afternoon, we take a scenic drive into Danggu Geikie Gorge National Park to admire the towering limestone walls that rise from the river, their pale surfaces sculpted and stained by millions of years of seasonal flooding. Dinner at the lodge completes a satisfying day of Kimberley exploration.

DAY 10 | Monday 20 July 2026 | Fitzroy Crossing to Broome

Following our breakfast we begin the day’s journey westward towards the coast. Morning tea is enjoyed at Ellendale Station Rest Area, a peaceful outback stop where the landscape gradually transitions from Kimberley ranges to open savanna. We continue through expansive floodplain country to Willare Bridge where we stop for lunch in the vast Fitzroy River floodplain—a dramatic landscape that transforms entirely during the wet season, when this crossing can remain submerged for weeks at a time. The afternoon drive brings a noticeable change as pindan red soils and coastal vegetation gradually replace the dry inland scrub, signalling our approach to the Indian Ocean. Arriving in Broome in the late afternoon, we check in to the Oaks Broome Hotel (Ph: 08 9192 9500), your relaxed base for the next two nights. For those wishing to witness one of Australia’s great natural spectacles, we take a short drive to Cable Beach to watch the tropical sun sink into the ocean in a blaze of colour. Dinner at the hotel follows, completing your arrival in this legendary pearling town.

DAY 11 | Tuesday 21 July 2026 | Exploring Broome

This morning we make our way to Gantheaume Point, where striking red pindan cliffs plunge into the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. At low tide, 130-million-year-old dinosaur footprints may be visible in the ancient rock platform below—a remarkable connection to the deep past. We continue to a guided Broome Tramway Tour, exploring the multicultural heritage of this unique town shaped by its pearling industry, Japanese divers, Chinese merchants, and Malay crews. Morning tea is followed by a visit to the Broome Historical Museum, where fascinating displays bring to life the town’s dramatic past— from cyclone devastation to wartime bombing raids and the dangerous romance of pearl diving in shark-infested waters. After lunch, we return to the resort to freshen up before the evening’s highlight: a sunset dinner cruise along Broome’s stunning coastline. As the sun sets over the ocean, enjoy a memorable dinner afloat—a fitting celebration of your Kimberley journey. We return to the hotel later in the evening.

DAY 12 | Wednesday 22 July 2026 | Broome to Perth

After breakfast, we visit Roebuck Bay for views across the expansive tidal flats, where tens of thousands of migratory shorebirds gather each year on their journey along the East Asian– Australasian Flyway. We continue to Pearl Luggers in Chinatown for a guided tour through Broome’s rich pearling heritage. Authentic restored luggers, hard-hat diving equipment, and the compelling stories of the brave divers who risked their lives in treacherous waters provide a vivid portrait of the industry that defined this remote town. Following free time to browse Broome’s galleries and shops, we enjoy an early lunch before transferring to Broome Airport for our afternoon flight to Perth. On arrival in the early evening, we transfer to Metro Hotel Perth (Ph: 08 9367 6122), your accommodation for the final night of the tour. Dinner at the hotel provides an opportunity to reflect on the extraordinary landscapes and experiences of the Kimberley with your fellow travellers.

DAY 13 | Thursday 23 July 2026 | Return to Adelaide

Your Kimberley journey concludes today with a final morning in Perth. After breakfast at the hotel, we make our way to Kings Park, one of the world’s largest inner-city parks, perched high above  the Swan River. Here you’ll enjoy the Federation Walkway, a glass-and-steel bridge that winds through the treetops of a natural bushland canopy, offering sweeping views across the river to the city skyline and the Darling Range beyond. Take time to stroll through the beautifully curated botanic gardens, where Western Australia’s extraordinary wildflower diversity is on display even in the cooler months. We enjoy morning tea in the park before transferring to Perth Airport for our afternoon Qantas flight home to Adelaide. As you prepare for departure, you’ll carry with you memories of ancient gorges, spectacular scenic flights, remote outback roads, and the enduring warmth and hospitality of the Kimberley. We thank you for choosing to explore Australia’s magnificent northwest with us and hope these shared experiences inspire future adventures and lasting friendships.
