Your Itinerary
DAY 1 | Friday 4 September 2026 | Adelaide Hills to Mannum
Your Murray River adventure begins with a morning departure from Adelaide, travelling through the picturesque Adelaide Hills to Biggs Flat. We arrive at Jurlique Farm where morning tea precedes a guided tour of this renowned organic farm and skincare producer. The tour reveals the biodynamic farming practices that have made Jurlique internationally respected, with opportunities to sample and purchase their products. Continuing to Hahndorf, we enjoy lunch at Beerenberg Farm Cafe, famous for its preserves and condiments. Our journey continues east to the historic river port of Mannum, where Mannum Lookout provides panoramic river valley views. We transfer to Mannum Wharf to board the elegant paddlewheel vessel Murray Princess (08 8569 2511), your floating home for three nights. After settling into your outside cabin, the vessel departs at 4:30pm, cruising under floodlight. Watch for kangaroos, hairy-nosed wombats, and native birds as we enjoy the Captain’s welcome dinner. We moor overnight at Murray Bridge, with optional onboard entertainment concluding your first day.
DAY 2 | Saturday 5 September 2026 | Murray Bridge Discovery
Following breakfast aboard the vessel, choose between two morning excursions: a guided tour of Murray Bridge exploring historic landmarks and attractions in this significant river town, or an optional wildlife experience at Monarto Zoo (additional $80 per person), Australia’s largest open-range zoo, home to more than 500 animals across 1,500 hectares of open plains. Both experiences provide fascinating insights into the region’s heritage and conservation efforts. Returning to the vessel for lunch, you may attend an optional presentation in the Sturt Dining Room showcasing the exceptional food and wine produced throughout the Riverland region. The afternoon offers relaxation as we cruise upriver, enjoying the ever-changing river landscape from the spacious sun deck or comfortable lounges. Dinner is served onboard while cruising, with the gentle rhythm of the paddlewheel providing a soothing soundtrack. We moor overnight at Salt Bush Flat, where the crew presents evening entertainment in the authentic tradition of riverboat hospitality.
DAY 3 | Sunday 6 September 2026 | Wilderness & Wildlife
After breakfast, join an optional guided nature walk at Salt Bush Flat, where your experienced guide provides insights into the unique flora and fauna of this Murray River habitat. The morning continues with gentle cruising upriver, offering ample time to enjoy the surrounding views from multiple vantage points aboard the vessel. Near Fromm’s Landing, we turn and head downriver toward River View Lodge. A highlight of your cruise awaits as you board the Dragon Fly, a specially designed flat-bottomed discovery vessel that navigates the narrow waterways inaccessible to larger craft. Travelling in small, personalized groups, you’ll explore the intricate maze of backwaters and channels where wildlife thrives. Watch for darters, herons, and egrets feeding along the river’s muddy edges, while your guide shares knowledge of the river’s complex ecosystem. Following lunch aboard the Murray Princess, the afternoon offers optional activities including bocce tournaments or fishing challenges for those who wish to participate. As the sun sets over the river, gather for the final night dinner in the elegant Sturt Dining Room, a fitting celebration of your river journey with your fellow travellers and the attentive crew.
DAY 4 | Monday 7 September 2026 | Barossa Valley Return
Following your final breakfast aboard, we disembark at Mannum Wharf and journey northwest through rolling countryside to the world-renowned Barossa Valley. After morning tea, we arrive at Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop at Pheasant Farm, where this celebrated Australian cook welcomes visitors to her culinary empire. An informative talk and tasting session introduces you to Maggie’s philosophy of regional produce and traditional methods, with each guest receiving a $10 voucher to spend in the extensive farm shop. Continuing through the valley’s patchwork of vineyards, we enjoy lunch at Wanera Wine Bar before a brief stop at Barossa Valley Nursery where you can browse and purchase plants and garden treasures. We conclude our tour with free time in the charming main street of Tanunda, the cultural heart of the Barossa, where German heritage remains evident in the architecture and local specialties. Departing in the late afternoon, we return to Adelaide, arriving home with memories of your immersive Murray River discovery.
